The Third Battle of Ypres, or the Battle of Passchendaele, is undoubtedly one of the most notorious conflicts of the First World War. If not for its loss of life, with nearly 500,000 wounded or killed, then for the downpour of rain that caused the battlefield to transform into a quagmire of mud that swallowed men whole. 
We must never forget the sacrifice these soldiers made. Which is why we are highlighting just some of the incredible, valiant and heart-breaking stories of those affected by the Battle of Passchendaele.
