Even before he graduated Vogue magazine said Niels Peeraer was ‘one to watch’. And the renowned fashion magazine was right. In 2011 Niels graduated from Antwerp’s fashion academy and today he is working in Paris. In the meantime the international fashion world is keeping a close eye on him.
Niels is inspired by Asians, and their gentle ways. He succeeds in transposing this atmosphere into strong collections, earning several fashion awards. He was a finalist in the ninth International Talent Support, won a Ra Award which included exhibition space, received the Innovation Award from Anne Chapelle (the CEO of bvba 32, the company which distributes the designs of Ann Demeulemeester and Haider Ackermann) in this third year at the fashion academy as well as a Momu and Flanders Fashion Institute Award. Niels is passionate about leather accessories, which led to a collaboration with Belgian brand, Delvaux, which asked him to design an exclusive handbag for them. The limited edition bag was immediately sold out. Niels decided to pursue his passion, starting his own fashion label for leather accessories. He learnt the tricks of the trade at the Antwerp fashion academy: “It’s a tough programme, but it’s among the best in the world. A degree from the academy opens many doors.”
