Long distance routes
If you fancy going on a longer ride that takes a few days, then we can recommend the long distance routes (LF) that criss-cross the whole of Flanders. For the most part these routes take you down quiet backwaters with open cycle paths.
In Flanders there are 3,000 km of main cycle paths and there are 1,200 km of LF routes. The route signposts are standardised and link in with routes in Wallonia and neighbouring countries. You can find a summary of all Flemish routes on the Grote Route Paden.
A few tips:
- The Flanders Cycle Route is made up of four separate LF routes for an 800 kilometre long “Tour of Flanders” taking in the most beautiful places Flanders has to offer. (LF 1, 5, 6 and 7)
- The Coastal route (LF1) between De Panne and Knokke Heist runs parallel with the coast and reveals all the natural beauty of the Flemish coast. You can cycle in safety past dunes, polders, dikes, harbours and maritime landmarks (86 km)
