Bilzen Mysteries - Alden Biesen in Flames
A Turbulent Past
From the regional headquarters of the Teutonic Order in the 13th century to a dramatic fire that set the place ablaze in 1971 ... Every stone of the Grand Commandery Alden Biesen emanates European history. A past we are proud of and that we wish to share with everyone.
A Vibrant Present
Today the Grand Commandery Alden Biesen is a unique heritage site, an international cultural and conference centre and one of the finest gems of Haspengouw. Every year events such as the International Storytelling Festival, the Zomeropera, Fleuramour, Agricultura and the Scottish Weekend attract throngs of curious visitors.
As of October 2016 Alden Biesen will host Bilzen Mysteries: a night-time walk through the fascinating past of this unique moated castle. With spectacular video, sound and light effects and ... a mysterious guide. A real must do alone, as a couple, family or company.
An accessibility path was created through the orchards of Alden Biesen Castle to enable persons with a mobilitiy impairment, in a wheelchair, or wheeling a buggy to enjoy the lovely natural surroundings. There is also a picnic area. An accessibility path is also being made in the English garden. The project will, however, not be fully completed until the end of 2017.
