Slightly outside the centre of Leuven, you will find a tiny area of land – 7.5 acres – that is overflowing with small tidy buildings (100) filled with apartments (300).  Now owned by the University of Leuven and filled with visiting students and academia, these adorable red brick and sandstone beguinages are surrounded by water. Originally a home for unmarried semi-religious women in the 13th century, the dozen or so streets are great for wander or bike ride.
