With 514 steps and 43 bells, the flat-topped unfinished tower of Mechelen’s largest church is a wonder to behold and a behemoth to climb.  An imposing Catholic church in the centre of the town and visible nearly everywhere, it’s a great compass to guide you throughout your travels through town. Built over 300 years and completed in 1520, the original plans calling for a 130-metre tower were scrapped, explaining the unusually shaped building.
