Back to Bruegel. Experience the 16th century
Built in 1381, the mythical Halle Gate, part of the second set of defensive walls that enclosed Brussels, will open a virtual door into Bruegel’s universe. It will be an opportunity for visitors to discover the hot topics of the 16th century as if they were there: Catholicism versus the Reformation, the exploration of the world, war, peace, culture, art ... in a unique building that this Flemish Master himself will have seen daily and passed through while he worked and lived in Brussels.
Teaser films on big screens will bring Bruegel’s paintings to life. Visitors will hear and see Mad Meg herself and experience many other characters that the artist captured in his paintings. A virtual tour, combined with authentic museum pieces will bring the artist’s world to life. Visitors of this yearlong exhibition will also be able to take a stroll around the ramparts of the Halle Gate and admire the Brussels’ skyline.
