ANZAC Day - Dawn Service
For the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, WWI began on 25 April 1915, when the troops landed on the Turkish Pensinsula of Gallipoli. ANZAC DAy pays tribute to all the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fought during WWI. ANZAC Day commemorations begin in Zonnebeke bright and early at 6 am with the traditional Dawn Service at Buttes New British Cemetery at Polygon Wood, where many soldiers from Australia and New Zealand were laid to rest.
The ceremony is followed by a breakfast in 'OC 't Zonnerad'; reservations for breakfast (€ 5) can be made via https://webshopzonnebeke.recreatex.be (from February 2017). In 2017, the ceremony will conclude with the planting of the first trees in the Wood of Peace, which will be located next to Polygon Wood.
