Castle of Huizingen, greenery and grandeur
Huizingen Castle was first mentioned in historical records back in 1491. The elegant castle is currently surrounded by a lush paradise teeming with flora and fauna. The rock garden provides a backdrop for a lovely walk.

Fauna, Flora and a Rock Garden

Today, elegant Huizingen Castle stands proud within a vibrant provincial estate, surrounded by 150,000 plants, a vast woodland suitable for walks, and a delightful mini-zoo  with goats, sheep, rabbits, pheasants, parakeets, and more. These days, the castle serves as a grand event hall, while the surrounding estate invites visitors to enjoy a leisurely stroll through its park or arboretum. Kids will love the playground, the pedal boats, and the mini-zoo

A highlight of the park is the rock garden. Originally designed for the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair, this stunning 5-hectare landscape with an altitude that varies by 36 metres forms a unique setting for a scenic and educational walk.

From 1491 to Flemish Neo-Renaissance

Huizingen Castle was first mentioned in the record books in 1491. The original building was destroyed by fire in the mid-16th century, but later rebuilt and taken over by nobleman and rebel leader Charles de Boisot. Much like the Count of Egmont, de Boisot served at the Spanish court before joining William of Orange in the revolt against King Philip II of Spain. He ultimately died in battle.

In the late19th century, the castle was completely transformed  into the current Flemish Neo-Renaissance gem as we know it today.
