At the end of the 19th century, Ostend’s flat oysters were hugely popular with the rich and famous, and were served in the best restaurants throughout Europe. However, it wasn’t until 1996 that the oyster ponds of Spuikom reopened. Ostendaise have a mild taste, and are widely available in restaurants or fishmongers throughout Ostend.
