The Maagdenhuis Museum, the museum of the Antwerp Public Centre for Social Welfare, is located in a historical building dating back to the 16th/17th century, which had long served as the ‘maegdeckens’, an orphanage for girls. The museum tells the story of the poor, the foundlings, and the orphans of Antwerp throughout the centuries. In addition to implements, the museum offers a surprisingly rich collection of paintings and sculptures.
