In the museum, the modern visitor encounters people from the war period. Quotations will show you what people lived through and how they felt. Sometimes they speak to you from screens, sometimes you have to read their words on panels. All quotations are cited in four languages and put together in a handy little guide which is available at the entrance. The visitor is invited to come to the war in Flanders, just as millions of others have already done so. Computers give the war stories of one man or woman who ended up here between 1914 and 1918. Three screens spread about the museum tell you how a historical individual came to be in the war, his or her story as far as Ypres, and how things eventually turned out. In wartime, this last question is the most important one: Will you survive or not? If so, how? If not, then the final screen shows where we can trace this casualty in the real Flanders' Fields; in the cemeteries or on the monuments outside the museum.
