Built in 1381, the mythical Halle Gate, part of the second set of defensive walls that enclosed Brussels, will open a virtual door into Bruegel’s universe. Visitors will discover the 16th century, a century marked not only by religious wars and religious battles, but also by the discovery of the new world, the rise of cities and the flourishing of humanism: all in a unique building that Bruegel himself will have seen daily and passed through while he lived and worked in Brussels. Thanks to virtual reality technology, visitors will be carried on an astonishing journey into the heart of the paintings of Bruegel the Elder. Discover the 16th century thanks to an exhibition filled with the most remarkable items from the Brussel Royal Museum of Art and History. At the top of the building, with a marvellous view over Brussels, take a look through the virtual reality viewfi nders and discover Brussels in the sixteenth century. Back to Bruegel: discovering history by a combination of advanced technology and exceptional artefacts.
