Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery is the impressive witness of more than four years of a violent war. The largest evacuation hospital on the Ypres bend was located in the area called Lijssenthoek. 10784 wounded who did not survive their stay in hospital were buried on-site. The adjacent visitors’ centre tells the story of this unique site. The cemetery is accessible via an alternative entrance at the side. You may need help to open the sliding lock at the entrance gate. The grass footpaths are level and easy to ride on with some assistance. The visitors’ centre is comfortably accessible and highly recommended. The toilet door near the car park is heavy and free space and clearance are limited, but manageable. There is a safety rail. There is limited clearance under the washbasin for a wheelchair.
