The Brussels Beer Challenge, the first professional beer competition in Belgium, was created by Becomev (Beer Communications & Events) in 2012 in response to the growing interest in beer culture. The first edition of the Brussels Beer Challenge took place in 2012 at La Bourse in Brussels. Since then, the event has moved regularly and expanded to become one of the world’s most important and prestigious ccompetition. In 2019 , after successful editions in Liege, Leuven and Antwerp, Brussels and Namur, the next hosting city in 2017 will be Mechelen. Over three days, 80 international judges renowned for their beer tasting expertise will convene. Over 1,250 beers from across the globe will be grouped by origin, style and typicity before being assessed by a panel of judges. After the three-day selection process, the finest beers will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals for each category.
