During the Burgundian period (the 15th century), there was an increased demand for items which could be used for personal prayer and meditation. This led to the fabrication of exclusive and technically highly refined devotional items for wealthy commissioners. There are more than 100 objects on display, ranging ivory panels, goldsmith’s work and manuscripts to small size paintings and beautiful boxwood sculptures. The late-medieval Sint-Janshospitaal provides a very special setting in which to admire these tiny artistic creations.
