Why shouldn’t a giant wooden horse rule a city? Dendermonde proves it is possible. This city has taken the Ros Beiaard as its symbol. Every ten years, a horse of tradition and legend is paraded through the streets of Dendermonde. The result is always an epic party for all. The city has other assets as well. These include the Grote Markt with its Cloth Hall and Butchers’ Hall, and of course the Belfry. You can hear the carillonneur sound the 49 bells at this UNESCO World Heritage Site. When it comes to heritage, Dendermonde is sure to ring a bell.
