In 2018, MAS hosts the young photographic artist Athos Burez with a photo series about baroque. In 30 images and installations, he offers an idiosyncratic and contemporary look at different genres from this stylistic period: still lifes, portraits, landscapes and interiors. Burez’s work is characterised by an almost surrealistic take on familiar images which means that they often seem to be hovering between two worlds. In this photo exhibition at the MAS, old baroque elements go hand in hand with the present-day, creating a completely new and unique baroque visual culture. The exhibition can be visited for free on the MAS Boulevard. Diptychs, triptychs and polyptychs fill the lightbox walls to create beacons recognisable from a distance.
