The new De Lijn buses are equipped with a low floor, ramp and hydraulic kneeling device. The ramp can only be used safely at an accessible (raised) stop. If you want to take a regular bus then you must make a reservation one day (24 hours) in advance by phoning the dial-a-bus switchboard in your province. That way you can be sure that your ride is wheelchair accessible.
The bus also includes places reserved for people with reduced mobility. These places are located at the front of the bus near the driver and at the wheelchair-accessible door. They are marked with pictograms.
The dial-a-bus service operates on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., on weekends and holidays from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
There is room for one wheelchair user on each dial-a-bus. If you want to reserve a ride on the dial-a-bus in Flanders then you must phone the switchboard at least 2 hours in advance.
All trams have a lower mid-section that enables wheelchair users to board and disembark more easily. Different stops have a raised platform that guarantees accessibility. These stops are indicated on the coastal tram route map with a wheelchair pictogram.
Find out which stops are accessible.
Reservations are not required on the coastal tram.
Every stop is announced visually and audibly and there are special tiles, lines and poles with braille messages for the blind and visually impaired at the accessible stops and in De Panne, Ostend, Blankenberge and De Haan.
De Lijn is making its services more accessible via BlueAssist. BlueAssist is an aid for people who find it difficult to understand all forms of communication or have difficulty asking questions. Thanks to BlueAssist they can easily ask fellow passengers or the bus driver to notify them when the bus is approaching the stop where they want to disembark.

Assistance on the metro
Passengers with reduced mobility can request assistance to purchase a ticket and to reach the metro carriage via an access incline. Assistance on the metro is provided from Monday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8.45 p.m. This assistance is necessary with an electric wheelchair. You are picked up at the ticket office and accompanied throughout the entire journey. The service must start and terminate in a station that is equipped for this. Find an accessible stop on the underground map. If you have to change lines then this will occur in Beekkant station.
Book an accessible ride online (French) or phone +32 02 515 23 65. Please make a reservation one day to no later than one hour before the journey.
Another possibility is to use the designated telephone near the ticket office to request assistance. The STIB will send an employee to assist you as quickly as possible.
Most STIB buses have a lowered floor and a collapsible ramp, but that is not enough. The stop where you board and disembark must be wheelchair accessible.
Find out which STIB stops are accessible for wheelchair users (only available in French).
The STIB organises a TaxiBus service within its exploitation zone; the TaxiBus transports people with a disability. The service operates upon request and offers "door-to-door" service. The TaxiBus services are guaranteed from Monday to Saturday from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m.
