Casa Ensor

Si realment vols conèixer al gran James Ensor, has d'anar a Ostende. La Reina de les Ciutats Costaneres s'ha associat amb aquest pioner de l'art modern per a l'eternitat. Per exemple, trobaràs la Casa Ensor. Ensor va viure i va treballar aquí durant els últims 30 anys de la seva vida. Moltes de les seves obres mestres van néixer aquí. Avui la casa és un museu, recentment restaurada en tota la seva esplendor. Amb una exposició permanent i exposicions temporals i interactives, pots submergir-te en la vida a vegades agitada i l'obra influent d'aquest home violent. Mu.ZEE

Per descomptat, a Ostende Mu.ZEE també porta un homenatge a Ensor. El museu té una impressionant col·lecció d'art modern i contemporani. Mu.ZEE posseeix 28 pintures, inclosa la icònica Autoretrat amb barret de flors, innombrables dibuixos, gravats i litografies de Ensor. Aquesta opulència es destaca en l'ala del museu Ensor i Spilliaert, dedicada al mestre i el seu conciutadà/artista Léon Spilliaert.

Museus Reials de Belles Arts de Brussel·les (RMSKB)

Ensor passarà als llibres d'història com un pura sang de Ostende, però també va tenir una estreta relació amb Brussel·les. Als 17 anys es trasllada a la capital per a completar la seva formació artística. Posteriorment també formaria part del grup d'artistes innovadors Els Vingt. L'esperit de Ensor mai va desaparèixer per complet de la capital. Els Museus Reials de Belles arts de Brussel·les (KMSKB) mostren desenes de les seves obres. A més, els museus més petits (privats) de Brussel·les com el Van Buur en i el Museu de Ixelles es mostren orgullosos del seu(s) propi(s) treball(s) per Ensor.

Museu Reial de Belles Arts d'Anvers KMSKA)

Els entusiastes d’Ensor que viatgen d’Ostende a Brussel·les han de fer una parada a Anvers. Al Museu Reial de Belles Artes d’Anvers (KMSKA) trobes la colecció Ensor més gran del món, una mina d’or artística. A més a més d’una gran quantitat de dibuixos i esbossos, la KMSKA posseeix ni menys de 38 pintures, incloses obres Mestres incomparables com La intriga i L’esquelet. Aquesta opulència artística s’accentua ara encara més a la sala temàtica Ensor, que va veure la llum després d’una profund reforma museística.

Museu Plantin-Moretus, Anvers

Una mica més endins de la ciutat, trobaràs el Museu Plantin-Moretus. Antiga residència d'una destacada família d'impressors, avui és un museu. A més d'un grapat de quadres de Rubens, també trobaràs una impressionant Sala d'impressió. Conté res menys que 188 gravats i 13 dibuixos de la mà d’Ensor. Amb vista a la conservació, només es poden veure alternativament. Encara que tots es poden admirar digitalment en l'Arxiu de la sala d'impressió. Però quan veuen la llum del dia, estan en bona companyia, flanquejats per dibuixos de Bruegel i del mestre contemporani Luc Tuymans, entre altres.

Museu de Belles Arts, Gant

En algun lloc entre el lloc de naixement d’Ensor, Ostende, i les metròpolis de Brussel·les i Anvers, es troba Gant. Aquesta ciutat d'art també té una peça d’Ensor en oferta. El Museu de Belles arts (MSK) posseeix cinc dels seus quadres. Un d'ells és l'obra mestra Anciana amb màscares. Aquest llenç es considera un dels punts culminants de l'anomenat període fantàstic d’Ensor, en el qual les màscares de carnestoltes que va conèixer des de la seva infància tenen un paper principal.

Gran part de la impressionant obra d’Ensor va arribar als museus més importants de tots els racons del món. I, no obstant això, pots conèixer millor l'obra d'aquesta icona aquí, en els rics museus de Flandes. Un viatge per la vida d’Ensor és un viatge per Flandes.
