1. What are cookies exactly?

Cookies are small data or text files that are installed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website or use a (mobile) application. The cookie file contains a unique code that allows your browser to be recognized when you visit the online service or during subsequent, repeated visits. Cookies may be set by the server of the website or application you are visiting, but also by third-party servers that may or may not work with that website or application.

Cookies generally make interaction between the visitor and the website or application easier and faster, and help the visitor navigate between different parts of a website or application.

2. What cookies do we use?

The following categories of cookies are possibly used on this website:

  • Functional cookies: these are necessary for the proper functioning and security of the website. Furthermore, they enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalization, such as remembering choices, users' preferred language or location. • Analytical cookies: these allow us to count the number of visitors and traffic sources so that we can measure and improve the performance of our website. They allow us to know which pages are most and least popular and to see how visitors move around the website. All the information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. If you do not allow these cookies, we do not know when you have visited our website and cannot measure its performance.
  • Advertising cookies: These may be placed by us or by our advertising partners. They are used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and to show you relevant advertisements about Visit Flanders services on other websites. They do not store personal information directly, but they do work by uniquely identifying your browser and device. If you do not allow these cookies, you will see less targeted ads on third-party channels.
  • Social media cookies: these cookies are used to connect to a third-party social media platform. They remember data from a user if they have logged into a social media account from a website.
