Ronse: where cycling, nature and culture are combined

It is the first time that Belgium will organise the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships. However, the hosting town of Ronse has prior experience. In 1963 and in 1988, this gem in the Flemish Ardennes already accommodated the Cycling World Championships. In addition to its strong cycling traditions, Ronse is also a charming town with a rich history and beautiful nature. Are you travelling by train? Then, you will arrive in the oldest station building on the European mainland. Originally, this building was in Bruges, but it was transferred here in the late 19th century. Hike through the Muziekbos, admire the view from the top of the Hotond or enjoy a regional Belgian beer at the market. Treat your tastebuds to ice cream from the farm or traditional mattentaarten. Stay longer and explore the cities of Kortrijk and Ghent, just a short distance from Ronse.

Tour of Flanders Centre (Top tip!)

A visit to the Tour of Flanders Centre in nearby Oudenaarde is a must for every cycling fanatic, but equally for visitors with no knowledge of cycling. This is the hub of the Flemish cycling culture. This unique experience centre immerses you in the heroism and glory of Flanders' best – the Tour of Flanders. Especially for young cycling fans or Flandriens, there is a separate children's route in the Tour exhibition. The Tour of Flanders Centre is fully accessible for people with reduced mobility. Companions may enter for free. There are also free audio guides available in Dutch, English and French.

KOERS. Museum of Cycle Racing

In Roeselare, less than one hour from Ronse, you will find a similar recommendation for cycling fans: KOERS. This Museum of Cycle Racing immerses you in the stories of heroes from the peloton: from legendary champions to groundbreaking pioneers. The museum is accessible to wheelchair users and a sensory basket is also available during your visit. Whether you are a cyclist yourself or simply enjoy the stories behind the sport, KOERS is an inspiring place. Tip: You can take the train from Ronse to Oudenaarde, then continue from there to Roeselare station. The final kilometre from the station to the museum can be travelled by bike. You take one with you on the train or rent a bike from Blue-Bike or Eco-velo (it is best to contact them beforehand to check availability of the bikes and arrange any assistance).

Cycle the World Championship yourself? Yes, you can!

Ewoud Vromant, one of the world's best para-cyclists, has teamed up with Cycling in Flanders to devise an accessible (but challenging) cycling route based on the World Championships in Ronse. Ewoud Vromant lost his right leg in 2013, but rediscovered his passion for cycling. Since then, he has won World titles and pedalled his way into the history books of Para-cycling. A true inspiration to everyone who admires sport, resilience and adventure! This route invites you to extend your boundaries. Whether you are training with a specific goal in mind or simply want to enjoy the Flemish Ardennes, but in a sporting manner.
