BRUSK: a new space that enables the city to flow

The ground floor is 2,500 square metres of radically open and freely accessible public space. BRUSK will become even more a part of the city over the coming years. An impressive Museum Park is now in the works. This will involve reopening a historical canal. Where outdoor art and various activities will get a prominent place under the centuries-old trees.

BRUSK welcomes you with a eye-catching art

The central Scala stairwell is the beating heart of BRUSK, where visitors can freely walk into this amazing piece of public space. You'll immediately encounter an awe-inspiring work of art, The Whispering Walls Rêve, a contemporary fresco by top international artist Laure Prouvost (FR). Have a good look, wander and continuously discover new meanings. This mural highlights what BRUSK is all about: a vibrant meeting place brimming with culture in the broadest sense of the word.

The new BRUSK art gallery has been open since 8 May 2026. You can currently see two major exhibitions here. Bigger Picture (until September 2026) explores the development of medieval Bruges via more than 250 art and heritage objects. Latent City (until November 2026) is an exhibition by Refik Anadol. This celebrated pioneer in AI-driven art explores the metropolis as a living, breathing creature.

BRUSK is an acronym for ‘BRUgge Schone Kunsten’ (Bruges Fine Arts) or ‘Brugge Stedelijke Kunsthal’ (Bruges Municipal Art Gallery). The name focuses on the gallery's open, multifaceted identity.
