Atmosphere and mystique of bygone times

Boekenberg Park in Deurne has been a beautiful green space for over five centuries. Around 1555, it was the summer residence of Jérome van den Machare. Two and a half centuries later it took on its lush, present-day form when its new owner, Guillaume Smets, laid out an English landscape garden with oriental and romantic features. One of the landscaping highlights was an impressive 26-metre Chinese pagoda tower. That sense of atmosphere and mystique still lives on today more than 200 years later, evident in the paths, layout, and historic structures.

A walk or a refreshing dip

The park is perfect for a leisurely walk or a cool swim in the ecological swimming pond. This consists of a large pool no less than 80-m long and a smaller children’s pool, all with naturally purified, crystal-clear water — no chlorine in sight. On hot days, you can relax on the sunny lawn beside the water.
