Con Jan van Eyck prima la calidad sobre la cantidad. Al menos, eso se desprende de su obra que conocemos hoy. Sólo han sobrevivido una veintena de sus obras. Están repartidos por todo el mundo occidental. Cinco de esas obras maestras se pueden encontrar en Flandes. Son más que dignos de una visita.

Catedral de San Bavón, Gante

Quien dice Jan van Eyck, dice el Cordero Místico.Esta obra maestra se llama en su totalidad La Adoración del Cordero Místico, pero a veces también se la conoce como el Altar de Gante. Y ese Altar de Gante está en la Catedral de San Bavón.Van Eyck pintó este políptico pensando en la catedral. Cuando se completó la obra en 1432, inmediatamente ocupó un lugar de honor allí. Casi seis siglos después, sigue siendo su hogar.

Hoy encontrará este icono de una forma actualizada. Después de años de restauración minuciosa, los colores suntuosos, los detalles meticulosos y el genio de van Eyck volvieron a destacar. La belleza casi impactante de esta obra maestra ha sido completamente restaurada. Puedes descubrirlo con tus propios ojos en el nuevo centro de visitantes en la Catedral de San Bavón.Usando realidad aumentada viajas al pasado y experimentas la historia llena de acontecimientos del Cordero Místico como si estuvieras allí.El misterio supremo de la belleza suprema.

Una galería de arte exhibe una detallada y vibrante pintura medieval multipanel detrás de un vidrio, con figuras y escenas religiosas. Dos personas la admiran, transmitiendo una sensación de asombro y aprecio.

Museo Groeninge, Brujas

Debido a ese icónico retablo de Gante, el nombre van Eyck se vincula rápidamente a Gante. Aunque anteriormente estuvo ligado al Brujas. El gran maestro instaló allí su estudio y vivió allí la mayor parte de su vida. El Museo Groeninge en Brujas, que se centra en los primitivos flamencos, posee dos de sus obras.El primero se llama Retrato de Margarita van Eyck.Como sugiere el título, este es un retrato de busto de la esposa de van Eyck, Margarita. El segundo es Virgen del canónigo Joris van der Paele.Es decir, después del Cordero Místico, la mayor obra de Van Eyck. Al hacer que su adoración de la Virgen María fuera grabada por el mejor pintor de su tiempo, el anciano y enfermo van der Paele quería asegurarse un lugar en el cielo. Dos piezas de historia del más alto valor artístico, en la bella Brujas.

Museo Real de Bellas Artes de Amberes

Cinco de los aproximadamente veinte tablas restantes de van Eyck todavía se pueden admirar en Flandes hoy. El Museo Real de Bellas Artes de Amberes(KMSKA) se enorgullece de presentar dos de ellos.El primero se llama La Madonna en la Fuente. Esa tabla honra la virginidad de María y lleva en el marco las palabras «als ixh can». Eso significa tanto como «lo mejor que pueda», el lema de van Eyck. El segundo trabajo es Santa Bárbara de Nicomedia, un dibujo detallado que, según algunas fuentes, es la tabla sin terminar más antiguo en pintura en los Países Bajos.

Si quieres captar la grandeza de Jan van Eyck, deberías visitar su Cordero Místico en la Catedral de San Bavón. Pero Amberes y Brujas también dejan entrever su genialidad. Aunque sus obras maestras están repartidas por todo el oeste, Flandes siempre será su puerto de origen.
